In this  @USAutism  Feature Video Release, Dr. Ryan Nelson, PhD, CCC-SLP who is the Head of the Department of Communicative Disorders at the University of Louisiana, at Lafayette shares his research on the benefits of using the strengths and interests of children with the language disorders and literacy construction challenges to build relationships which then pave the way for new learning. With his extensive background in counseling in communication disorders and as the co-editor of The Handbook of Qualitative Research in Communicative Disorders, Dr. Nelson offers a unique, research--based perspective on literacy development for those across the autism spectrum who are struggling to read, write, or communicate.
